I must admit being from the Boston area (son went to Penn State which is my connection to the Lions) - getting recruiting information for the Girls (and boys for that matter) is very difficult
I am also a BC Hockey and Football fan (being a BC grad) to which information is more easily attainable
I propose we start a thread on non committed recruits / girls Russ and Co are interested in for the upcoming classes including the big one in a few years replacing this years Sophs
If anyone has access to such information please share it here
A few questions
1. Is the staff actively recruiting student athletes for the classes of 2016 or 2017 over and above the known commitments (White and May) ? Seems there should be an opening or two in those classes, but it appears that the high end talent is mostly committed elsewhere
2. Regarding the class of 2018 - will Russ bring in another mammoth class ? Or try to spread it out a bit ? Will this be Russ's last large class as head coach ? And who are the big targets (I know its early but)

And who are the big targets (I know its early but) Russ Rose and staff are famously tight-lipped about recruiting (as they must be, under NCAA rules) and the volleyball community as a whole seems to be much more low key about recruiting than are football and basketball fans, for example. On the DigNittanyVolleyball.com website, we've only reported on verbal commitments (and almost always only after two public confirmations), but this is a message board, so it obviously will be more free flowing. We do ask that people not contact potential recruits -- it might very well be a NCAA violation. But to answer your questions, I'm sure the staff is recruiting for both classes (if you look at the Player Matrix tab in the menu bar, you can get an idea of future openings. ) Certainly, they'll need to bring in several recruits for those two classes to fill the openings left from this season's stellar group. Thanks for posting, by the way. It's quiet now, but things should pick up in June.

I think the massive 2016 class that you see at Stanford is also a product of opportunity. This heavily hyped 2012 Stanford class will have graduated and this gives this crew the chance to start for 4 years. It's not all of it obviously but I do feel it is part of it.
More later on what PSU is leaning toward.

Does any information "leak" from the summer camps that Russ conducts ? I assume based upon prior comments that much of the recruiting leads come from the camp Also saw on the volley talk website the list of the womens national team and uncommitted players - is Russ recruiting any of these gals (Hart, Hentz, Mosser, Pummer, Samedy etc) ? Brionne Butler (MB, 6-3, East Bernard, Texas, Texstar, Lone Star Region) - Texas '17 Tiffany Clark (L, 5-11, Naperville, Ill., Sports Performance, Great Lakes Region) - Michigan '16 Paige Hammons (OH, 6-2, Louisville, Ky., Kentucky Indiana Volleyball Association, Pioneer Region) Florida '17 Alexis Hart (OH, 6-1, Independence, Mo., Invasion, Heart of America Region) Uncommitted '17 Hailey Harward (L, 5-9, Phoenix, Ariz., Aspire Volleyball Club, Arizona Region) - Long Beach State '16 Morgan Hentz (L, 5-9, Lakeside Park, Ky., Northern Kentucky Volleyball Club, Pioneer Region) Uncommitted '16 Sydney Hilley (S, 5-11, Brooklyn Park, Minn., Minnesota Select, North Country Region) - Wisconsin '17 Khalia Lanier (OH, 6-2, Scottsdale, Ariz., AZ Storm, Arizona Region) USC '16 Madison Lilley (S, 5-11, Overland Park, Kan., KC Power, Heart of America Region) -Kentucky '17 Gia Milana (OH, 6-2, Armada, Mich., Oakland Elite Volleyball, Lakeshore Region) - Maryland '16 Jennifer Mosser (OH, 5-11, Lakeville, Minn., Minnesota Select, North Country Region) -Uncommitted '17 Regan Pittman (MB, 6-4, Spring Hill, Kan., KC Power, Heart of America Region) -Minnesota '16 Kathryn Plummer (S, 6-6, Aliso Viejo, Calif., Tstreet Volleyball Club, Southern California Region) TBA '16 Stephanie Samedy (MB, 6-2, Clermont, Fla., Top Select Volleyball Academy, Florida Region) -Uncommitted '17 Lauren Sanders (MB, 6-4, Snohomish, Wash., Washington Volleyball Academy, Puget Sound Region) -Uncommitted Ashley Shook (S, 6-1, Plainfield, Ill., Sports Performance, Great Lakes Region) - Texas '17 Mia Sokolowski (OH, 6-4, Tucson, Ariz., Zona Volleyball Club, Arizona Region) - Florida '16 Lauren Stivrins (MB, 6-4, Scottsdale, Ariz., AZ Storm, Arizona Region) - Nebraska '16 Ronika Stone (MB, 6-2, San Jose, Calif., Vision Volleyball Club, Northern California Region) -Oregon '16 Lexi Sun (OH, 6-3, Encinitas, Calif., Coast VBC, Southern California Region) - Texas '17 Read more: volleytalk.proboards.com/thread/58934/2015-girls-youth-national-training#ixzz3ai0Z2Tcv

That's quite a list. Eliminating the verbal commits (though anything can happen), Kathryn Plummer certainly looks intriguing (a 6-6 setter? Really), but VolleyTalk chatter was that she was only interested in schools with a sand team, so if true, that would rule out Penn State. I dunno, that Stanford class has done everything expected of them, except for untimely losses to that pesky team in blue and white. Stanford not making the finals was simply the result of being stuck on the wrong side of the bracket. The last two years, Stanford-PSU was the de facto finals. If not for PSU, Stanford would have one championship for sure, and probably two, and be a favorite for a third. They would have beaten BYU easily and probably matched up with Wisconsin better than PSU did.

Remember the next big PSU class will be 2018. Frantti, Washington, Lee, Reed, Weiskircher, Thelin and Lainy Pierce just finished their freshman year. (and talk about a class that lived up to lofty expectations -- wow) Another thing to keep in mind -- recruiting in VB is done VERY early. If you had access to who the PSU coaches are scouting right now, it's mostly HS freshman and younger. Which might be why you don't see more fan discussion. Some of us would be uncomfortable talking about 13-14-15 year old girls. I'd rather talk about them when they get on the court at Rec Hall.

It's amusing how little comes out regarding recruits. The only thing more tightly held--information about injuries. Even fans "in the know" who seem to know won't divulge anything. A couple years ago, I made the mistake of asking about Ariel Scott's injury before the 2013 season. The responses I got from other PSU fans weren't encouraging.
While the lack of information puts a damper on discussion, I do acknowledge that it does respect and protect the girls' privacy. That's probably a fair trade.

Also, I suspect that throughout the season, most of the players are injured to some degree or other most of the time. Diving on floors and getting balls whacked at you are high-risk endeavors.

Alexis Hart is the potential recruit that intrigues me Would be a great replacement for Megan Versitile OH and fills a big need for the 2016 season

Its a nice collection but not always a very good predictor.

Lee was almost certainly the best freshman in the country who didn't win a starting job in 2015 (ask Wisconsin). And there's talk that Reed is the most athletic player on the whole team -- just needs some coaching and experience, which she is getting. So when Whitney and Courtney graduate, PSU should be in very good shape. I'm looking forward to seeing more from them in the early season this fall to see how they've progressed.

Has Gorrell got a good shot, or do we see Whitney move back to the middle and Lee start at outside?

Weiskircher and Reed were class of 2014 (along with Lee, Frantti, Washington, Thelen, and Pierce) but they both redshirted.
