I wonder whether this year's team will resemble 2011 or 2013 (I think with a new setter 2014 is too much to hope for). They have way more offensive firepower than 2011. That team had some injuries that robbed them of a lot of their front line talent. Denny might have been a great player. Dorton might have been the leader of the team. Grant was a freshman and pretty raw. Slay was a soph but still developing her offensive game. Whitney redshirted. McClendon was asked to do so much and defenses just bunched up on her. New setter, but fortunately the hitters have experience. Courtney and Frantti are both so terrific out of system/subpar sets which they may see a lot of this year. Very interesting year because so many teams are working in lots of new players -- the only exception being Stanford. Too bad if the reports about Ajanaku are true -- I really like seeing her play. I think you're basically right ( except on Whitney - she played in 2011, sat out in 2012)

I have not seen the report on Inky Ajanku. Can you state what the report is about?

I have not seen the report on Inky Ajanku. Can you state what the report is about? Some individuals on volleytalk claim that Inky suffered a serious injury (possibly threatening her collegiate season) while playing for one of the national teams. There is no confirmation but a lot of recriminations among the thread participants.

Fitzmorris is projected, by some, as the #1 recruit in the nation as a MB. A position of need for PSU. She is currently uncommitted, although Stanford fans have her penciled in. Being uncommitted, I take that as PSU being in the hunt. Am I barking up a tree?

By far this is usually the biggest and most important week for PSU recruiting. Many of the top prospects are often in for the last Juniata camp. This is when a long hard look and evaluation takes place. Exciting time for those kids and coaches.

I think usually the Juniata camp is 10 courts approx of 12 to 15 girls. Of that, 15 to 30 (7th thru 12th) are girls who may generate a raised eyebrow from the staff. That doesn't mean the others aren't good just referring to PSU caliber. That number actually may be on the generous side. It was always a good camp and notoriously physical. Leaning against the pole with sunglasses on and sandals checking your phone and pretending to coach the campers is not ever allowed from the PSU girls by Russ. I hate when I have seen and hear this about camps around the country.

Keeton Holcomb originally committed to WVU. She decided to change her commitment to PSU after a WVU coaching change. Question: Does anyone know if she went from a scholarship at WVU to a walk on at PSU?

Keeton Holcomb originally committed to WVU. She decided to change her commitment to PSU after a WVU coaching change. Question: Does anyone know if she went from a scholarship at WVU to a walk on at PSU? #1 Do we even know if she had a scholarship offer at WVU? #2 Do we know if a scholarship is available? #3 to the best of my recollection walkons don't usually get a scholarship until they earn playing time? #4 There is alot of DS ahead of her and many who have had significant playing time. #5 WVU is not in the same league as PSU as you well know. #6 personally I don't like to talk about who or who isn't on scholarship. So as you can see , I can't answer your question with absolute certainty. But, we are glad to have her and she sounds like she will help at some point.

There was one scholarship available a few months ago but I have a hunch it will go to our next libero now. With all our defensive players it should be a lively competition.

In 2014 Emily Sciorra trained with Virginia Elite’s two libero coaches, Alyssa D’Errico (Penn State) and Melissa Caldwell (Virginia). I wonder if this had any bearing on her picking Penn State.

MB A Position of need? Thelen, Gorrell and Washington would seem to fill that "need".

MB A Position of need? Thelen, Gorrell and Washington would seem to fill that "need". Thelen doesn't have a big body of work, and Gorrell is a freshman. You may be right (I certainly hope you are right) but outside of South Gym, who knows?
