With Molly Haggarty opening up her recruitment - has Russ & Co been in touch ?
Also any clues as to the mystery addition to 2015 ? "very likely another unnamed that shall remain that way" Leave the name off and provide some clues - IE position, top 50 recruit ? No guessing allowed - we will leave it to our imagination

Gorrell looks to be the most athletic MB who can replace the talent of Grant. She seems to jump very well and as long as the timing with the setter is worked out, she can do the things that Grant did for PSU. By the way, who do you think will be the setter and the libero for 2015 season?

Setter - Weiskircher certainly has an advantage over Wilmarie Rivera, having trained last year with the team, but spots aren't handed out based on seniority, so it will be a battle. If Gorrell can give the team what Grant did, the staff will be ecstatic.

How about the libero position, Who do you think has the inside track? I think there are too many DS/L combo players on the 2015 team. They should not recruit anymore DS players for next two years and concentrate on recruiting taller OHs and MHs

They should not recruit anymore DS players for next two years and concentrate on recruiting taller OHs and MHs They had a lot last season too, and that worked out pretty well. Plus, they lost two really, really good ones in Gonzalez and Fuller. Not clear that any of the newbies can match their skill. I actually think the opposite: I hope they can recruit another DS for 2016.

I don't think you can associate PSU women's success to having all those DS players. Gonzalez and Fuller were exceptional and none of the current DS come close to replacing Gonzalez or Fuller.

Many fans have pegged the Pierce sisters as heirs apparent. I sincerely hope they are right, or that someone can come close to replacing Gonzalez and Fuller. Rose has often said that good passing has been key to PSU's success.
Anyone out there have impressions from spring volleyball that might shed a little light?

As I recall Gonzalez and Fuller were both national caliber players in HS. Is Canulli in the same class? But I think the point needs to be made that backcourt positions take time to develop. There is so much recognition and anticipation required. Very rare for any underclassmen to come in and play at a senior's level (though Taylor Morey was awfully good for Wisky last year) Kendall Pierce will be in her 3rd year so that's a good thing. They will need her leadership.

The more I think about the 2015 season, the more concerned I am about passing--not so much that the candidates are lacking, more that none have them have really had opportunities to shine. Gonzalez and Fuller had made an impression on me midway through their sophomore seasons. The Pierce sisters have had some nice service runs. I just don't recall many standout defensive plays. To be fair, I don't recall any failures.
Nyline? Know anybody who saw the team practice over the spring?
I'm sure Coach Rose knows, but I don't expect he'll share his impressions anytime soon.

Ok. I think we all need to be prepared for some roster (coaches and players) adjustments from what we project for 2015.
As to Fuller and Gonzalez they were special is some areas and not so special in others but coach Rose knew these two players well and what their strengths and weaknesses were and how to maximize/minimalize each.
Much of their development came from exactly what phillytom is eluding too. = 1st team reps = symmetry = confidence in self and from team/staff = high level execution.
Coach had this in place for 3 years and there was absolutely no reason to change this formula....no matter what the other Ds's did the past 3 years.
Whether it be Kendall ( 99% Lock imo) Lainy, Carly and for Bryanna (Setting)or anyone else we will not know until they experience this 1st team reps after rep after rep.
The fact that Kendall and Lainy were put in the Big Time games and executed at a high level (eg. Kendall's Stanford game or Lainy's Wisconsin match) in the title run puts them in the running for sure. I have heard that Carly has done nice things too. We will see.
I don't expect ANY words of encouragement from Coach Rose as he know how tough he wants ALL of these girls come December.

I think there's no question the backcourt will take time to develop. The last time they had a backcourt transition of this magnitude it was when D'Errico and Quillico graduated -- and really the next two seasons the backcourt play was not at the highest level -- and that happened to be two seasons PSU didn't make it to the championship game.
On the other hand every transition is different. This time there is some continuity with the Pierces as well as the other returning DSs, most of the front line returns, Frantti will probably play more back row her soph year -- and perhaps most importantly Courtney is back one more year and she is -- well if there's a better six rotation player in the country .... the only ones I can think of in the same class are Burgess and Howard, and I wouldn't trade Courtney for either of them.
In other words, no way to know until the season unfolds. One of the reasons why it is so much fun to be a college sports fan -- to see each team year's develop in its unique way.

I can't help but edit, so in defense of Carley Muller, it's Carley (Muller). I am spelling challenged, so I have to try harder

It seems recruiting in North Carolina and Virginia has dried up. Is that area just not producing quality recruits lately? Megan Hodge, Katie Slay, Blair Brown, Kristen Carpenter sure were good ones.
