Interesting looking at all the BIG talent...on the award stand there were also Leon (OSU) and Santana (MN). Didn't recognize any others...

It's a miracle that the US was able to win, given Hancock's marginal skills..... Oops! I thought I was posting on Volleytalk under one of my Wisconsin-based aliases. It will be interesting to see what Karch does moving forward. If nothing else, she exhibited lots of leadership. Yea, these people on VT are the same that said and have been saying since day one she would never do good at the next level. Maybe they were talking about the intergalactic league!

They complained bitterly about Alisha Glass, too. I've been doing Volleytalk for less than four years, but I've gotta say that so many of the Volleytalkers really have it in for PSU and its current and former players. Part of the reason I play games like "Wisconsin's former setter" is simply to mess with these jerks. Their animus towards PSU is amazing, it blinds them to reality. Karch Kiraly and PSU fans didn't select Micha as the tournament MVP--that was either foreign coaches or media. They could obviously see what most of Volleytalk couldn't. Kind of makes you wonder about how much knowledge is resident on the site. Certainly, much of the site's collective knowledge is likely blinded by parochial interests. Glad we have a "safe space." Thanks Nyline.

Micha/Meeka/Meecha service ace count, final: v VEN : 11 v COL : 8 v PR : 4 (5 setter. Only match that went extra sets) v MEX : 2 (did not start any set) v ARG : 2 v PERU : 3 v DomRep: 1 Total: 31
So, USA dropped sets only to PR. Last year, both PR and DR gave them trouble. Improvement!

They complained bitterly about Alisha Glass, too. As I recall, at the core of much, or at least some, of the Glass/Hancock antipathy has been that they weren't "classic" setters -- they were hitters who were converted to setter. Consequently, they weren't (according to the argument) as polished as other setters such as WFS. One characteristic shared by Glass and Hancock is an unbelievable compete level. That's a concept that gets tossed around somewhat loosely, I think (like effort inflation: She always gives 100%; but that one always gives 110%! And that other one? 120% every time!!!). But in the case of Glass and Hancock, I think it's appropriate. Both absolutely, positively hated to lose -- at times they simply would refuse to lose. Maybe they weren't stylistically the classic setters, but they sure as heck got the job done. At the end of the day, it's about winning, and both Glass and Hancock were/are winners.

A leading candidate (he has "badger" in his name, go figure) for the 2017 Ricardo Cabeza award contended that WFS would triumph over Micha in a "cat fight." I restrained myself and didn't respond, but are you kidding? Micah beat the hell out of her on the court (please PSUMAUI, reload the B1G 2014 season opener) five straight times! Micah wouldn't do a cat fight, she'd do a beat down. But anyway, When it comes to setters, I'm starting to think of Volleytalk posters as coming out of a toolbox. Sorry to rant.

So we may very well have TWO great setters down the road for USA Volleyball. Who can argue with that?

I think we sometimes turn our disagreement with the Wisky fans into disdain for their player. Lauren Carlini is a terrific setter and a strong competitor. While I was pleased that Micha won the starting spot and performed so well, I thought that Lauren handled her role gracefully, worked cooperatively with Micha, and contributed when called upon.

Could not have been easy to stand right behind Micha to pose for photos with Micha holding 3 trophies, and look like she was genuinely happy. Same for Courtney who, despite looking really good v Mex and other prelim play, was benched for the finals.

I actually am frustrated for Lauren, in respect to how a few of her fans are posting. I know she is a big girl now but these posters are creating a contentious environment that is or can be uncomfortable for a player. The "next coming" label has been thrown out there for 4+ Years now and things in sports just dont happen over night at the next level. Time will tell and we have a lot of it. From what I can see and what I hear the team really is having fun and all rowing in the same direction. ........ As far as 2 PSU setters in next Olympics. Possible. Also 0 is a possibility. 😀 I like 2 though.

Yet Amber won the roster spot. They play on the same team in Germany. So we'll see what international experience does for them both.

Within the confines of a reasonable discussion forum, I'm more than happy to give ummmm... Lauren, her due. I'll try to internalize my frustration with Wisconsin fans for the time being.
