Prepvolleyball is predicting Minnesota will beat us on Saturday. I have lost my confidence in their projections. I hope we crush them.
"What to Watch For: Penn State is playing for a Big Ten championship this weekend and more than likely the No. 1 top seed in the NCAA tournament along with it. Minnesota has been scuffling a bit of late, losing its last two conference matches against ranked opponents in Purdue and Illinois. When Minnesota struggled early on in the Big Ten it was because the Gophers were looking to find some consistency on offense. But in the losses to the Boilermakers and Fighting Illini, Minnesota allowed both to hit above .300 as a team. If Minnesota plays that type of defense against Penn State, it could be a lopsided match. It’s important for middles Regan Pittman and Molly Lohman and right-side blockers Stephanie Samedy and Samantha Seliger-Swenson to get a lot of touches and slow down the Penn State attack to have a chance. The Nittany Lions are coming off a relative easy week with victories over Indiana and Rutgers. For Penn State, it always remains the same. The more Haleigh Washington they can throw at opponents, the better chance the Nittany Lions have of winning.
Prediction: What a way to end the regular season. We are leaning toward the upset here. I think Minnesota gets it together at home and comes through. Minnesota in 5."

Statistically speaking the gophers don't make many errors, but they lack the firepower to beat us. Also, we need to continue serving tough, because Minny likes to run a fast offense, which is tough to defend.

Running a fast offense didn't help them against Illinois. This is a classic example of one team with momentum and another still trying to find its identity. Big Mo usually prevails even on the road. I can't wait to see this match.

We're the underdog then? Maybe that's a good thing. Pats on the back are not good all the time.

Of Volleytalk's 65 PTW participants, 49 have picked PSU to win. I can't believe I'm saying this, but let's hope the "Wisdom of (Volleytalk) Crowds" is on target this evening.

And then there's Pick the Winners. Not a big deal. I'm just nitpicking (it's a personality defect).

Do they have as much confidence in beating PSU as the badger fans?" So, I'm sticking with the fans' poll results, as being more reflective of Gopher fans than the Pick the Winners "poll," which is reflective of less emotion (and perhaps/one hopes/I believe) more fact-based analysis.

There you go, reading the question again. And while I'm at it, mom always liked you more.

PSU does NOT lose this match. I agree. As important as tourney is I think those seniors really want to finish with that BIG champion banner even if it’s co champ.

RE: tonight's matchup. For comparison, Rutgers scored 42 points v Minnesota last night; on the road in Rec Hall, RU managed only 23. v Minnesota, RU hit .320 in set 1.
