I watched most of the match on my phone, then an I-pad. Couldn't get ESPN to stream to my laptop--the inconveniences of being away from home. I thought PSU was going to pull it out in the 4th, being able to win a war after losing almost every battle. Nebraska played a better game. Nevertheless, I don't feel as distraught as I did after the loss to Hawaii in 2015. Despite so many things going wrong, the team never gave up and they stayed a team--not breaking down and playing as individuals as things went south. I don't know what next year holds. I've really enjoyed the season on this site. We had a lotta growth not only in our membership but also in the quality and quantity of discussion. I hope everybody at least checks in periodically during the off-season and comes back for the 2018 season. At least watching Saturday's final won't be as stressful as it might have been. And I'm with you, 100%, too.

I would not be as disappointed as I am if the team was inconsistent the last couple of months. But, they played like a champion for so long, many of us expected a better game from them last night. Well, at least we are still tied with Stanford in the most championships for another year. I think the next year's team has a lot of potential, just needing one or two of the MB to convert to OH and/or get another one via transfer. I thoroughly enjoyed the posts from other members and wish all of you and your families a happy and a healthy holidays!

I am very proud of the way our girls battled all season and almost beat Nebraska, who I think is the best team in the country. We will miss the fire and laughter they shared with their fans and I wish them a blessed Christmas break. They surely deserve our love and support.

Had a hard time sleeping last night The ending of set 4 was excruciatingly painful To say they Should have won is an understatement And the play in set 5 was probably as bad as they have played all season
As for next season my initial thought is the run is temporarily over No pin hitters and you can’t win without them

But there is no shame in a Final Four finish -- most schools have never even made a Final Four (not that we should set the bar at "most schools.") Again, thanks to all the seniors for their very-considerable contributions to Penn State, and for many, many thrilling moments.

Hi everyone, this is my very first post. I know, bad time for that. I've been "lurking" out there all season, and I wanted to say thanks to everyone for being able to read their comments. It certainly adds to the excitement of watching the games. I've been a fan of the team for many years, and this was another great year. But, as I believe Coach Rose said after the game, his teams are now judged against past success and that means a national championship. His teams are so fun to watch and they win and win and win. I live in Philly and my other teams never win. But I am like 'lionsfan'; I invest a lot and I hate to have a season end like last night. That will hurt for a while. So many errors, yet a win was still within our grasp. Now...off to see my sports therapist!! Onward

Well pete1919 As far as next year is concerned we do have Nia Reed coming back and there is also Kat Cather. As far as Nia goes I think she showed this year she can be dominant. And Kat the only clue I have about her is video from Ole Miss and she looked pretty good. And also If we ever find out what happened to Michaela Putnicki our version of Waldo and the incoming freshman Jonni Parker and also Claire Powers who is listed as a red shirt Junior

I don't believe Putnicki will be on the team next season (I think she only played in three sets this year). I don't think there's any special story here, but I doubt we'll learn any specifics until next year. Patience.

I would like to join in the laudatory comments made by others. I enjoyed following the team this year, more than in other years. My enjoyment was substantially enhanced by the posters on this site, who uniformly increased my understanding, patiently answered my questions, and tolerated my ill informed musings.
While I am sorry we did not win, I found last night's match to be gripping, the efforts displayed by both teams highly impressive, and underline Mr. Sunderland's repeated comments regarding the high quality displayed. I for one attribute the errors by both teams to the their opponents' abilities, including service errors. I also found moments through out the match where each individual who saw the court displayed superior skills. Given the relative equivalence of the athletes and coaching, consistent success by either team was simply not possible.
I also wish (again echoing observations by others) to express my appreciation for the Seniors who have continuously made me proud to be an alum. I expect two or three of the graduates will have opportunities to play professionally, and perhaps even try for spots on the National Team.
As for next year, the team will (I hope!) be led by an experienced setter, two liberos, and one middle blocker. Throw in Nia Reed, and whatever contributions we get from the incoming freshmen, and I am certain PSU will again field a team which will do us proud.

I was comparing this national semi loss vs. the last time PSU was the number 1 seed facing the 5 seed (Oregon, who took out #4 Neb). As many of you remember, Micha injured her ankle, and the match went about as expected from there...
I have to say, I'd much rather this experience than that one. There's no questions of "what if?" -- only a sincere respect for a game where both teams put it all on the line and one had to come up short. I think there may be some karma coming back around to the spoiled PSU fans. We've had some close 5-set encounters over the years ('08 NEB, '09 TX, '13 STAN (down 9-6 in 5th set) that led to titles. Can't win 'em all!
My only regret is for these seniors who put all they had into winning a title. I hope they view the season as another successful one in PSU's storied history, not a bust. I truly think they may have put too much pressure on themselves and the lack of balance in terms of years (i.e. basically all seniors) may have led to a lot of nerves from a lot of needed players.

We'll have pin hitters next year, but the question is whether they can serve, receive, pass, play backcourt. A lot of hitters can hit well, but it's the other skills that make them all-conference and AA. As for Michaela, it is my impression from reading her social media that she is homesick and prefers Colorado to Central PA. I can't say I blame her. I moved from Colorado Springs to attend grad school at Penn State many years ago. It is an adjustment.

Responding to Offonvictory...
You said it all.
My biggest gut-wrencher is the replay-rereplay-rerereplay of the trip. I can only imagine what went on in the minds of the players involved last night. ESPN will be showing it for as long as ABC Wide World of Sports showed the guy careening off the ski-jump.
We lost the match in many of the times we missed our serves; in out-of-bounds attacks; in tips that should have been hit more authoritatively. Yet for the media, it will all come down to that one moment. That's what hurts the most...that the players will have to deal with that moment for a long time.
