PSU 3-0 or 3-1. Offense wins this semi Nebraska is going to target Frantti and Lee on their serving. Coach needs to find a way to protect them from having to receive all those serves or we will think we are watching our first match with the Huskers all over again. If we can neutralize their serving we will win. We can still remember how our earlier match went down, it was ugly with all the shanks.

on serve receive and digs, White is more effective in most matches now than earlier in the season. I think she will help pick up slack. And did anyone notice Pierce's digs late on Saturday? wow.

There is no place like Nebraska, where the boys are the fairest, the girls are the squarest and white denim overalls are considered formal attire.

Thinking about the receive game-not sure we have better options than Frantti and Lee. White can only cover part of the court so who takes the other half or third? Holcomb was inconsistent and Sciorra did not get too many opportunities. Powers had one or two chances and was just ok. As I think about this, I would rather have Frantti and Lee receive and defend than the other options. They have each done well.

We need a match on Thursday that the players refuse to let the ball hit the floor, all Nebraska's hits are tips for back row to keep in play and another block party by Haleigh in the middle! Nebraska thrives on quick points.

I think Lee and Frantti were more exposed/alone earlier in season. Would opponents pick on them? Of course.

So be careful what you wish for. I'm counting on Coach Rose to come up with the winning solution.

How many times has Coach praised Frantti's passing in post match press conferences? My point is that there is no special game plan or hidden button to push. Nebraska is going to serve really hard. Our receipt team has to handle that or we lose. There will be some aces and poor passes, but so long as there are not too many, then we should be fine. The other factor in the regular season match with Nebraska was our lackluster serving. We did not stress Nebraska at all and they were in system for much of the match. If we serve like we did in the away matches against Mich St. and Minnesota, we should do much better.

Hopefully, the ladies recognize they are in the Huskers' backyard. This is the first AWAY match PSU is playing in the tournament. Russ has said all year that the key to PSU matches is serve/receive. Only once has anyone done it better than us this season. Serve/receive will decide this match too.

Certainly a close call, but I like our chances. This team travels well!

I am literally so nervous over tonight that I won’t be able to watch live. I am trying to distract myself with things to do all day and hopefully tonight, and will record and check scores every so often. I hate that I ever let sports get to me, and I’ve gotten so much better over the years making sure I don’t get too caught up. Apparently, the Penn State women’s volleyball team is the one sports team I am the most invested in, darn it.
It all goes back to that September game. I had never in my PSU volleyball watching history (since 1993) actually been comfortable in the thought that we would actually beat Nebraska. The anger and motivation they had to have over the last in Lincoln in the 2016 match, the Huskers without a trio of stars and us senior heavy, the match the first of the conference season, the match being in Rec Hall…it all added up to, “Well, this time for sure they’ll do it.”
So that was a big letdown...Nebraska just has our number, so I’m on guard again, and fear that Cook will just be so good as dissecting and planning to mess with the limitations of our 6-2. Maybe that September loss was the one to make sure it won’t happen again, but I thought that about the ’16 tourney loss. I just hope it isn’t so much in their heads. Coach Rose’s votes in the AVCA poll afterward still seemed to indicate he had faith, so I hope that holds true.
Gotta stray focused every point. Don’t get too excited, don’t try to make every swing a crushing statement kill. And of course the serve/receive battle. We really, really need to win that first set. Hunter is their biggest advantage…gotta be ready for her tricks and do as much as we can to minimize her impact. The crowd will be heavy Nebraska, but it won’t be as overwhelming as the 2016 crowd I don’t think. I hope the team that showed a lot of focus on the road late in the season shows up and takes control.
Damn you, sports!
