I've enjoyed the first two sets except the score. I think Leath played superbly on both passing and attacking end. One thing I don't understand is why we subbed in Blossom when the score was around 20 in both sets. I think she was a bit lost on the court and in second set the first point she and Weiskircher even confused on who's supposed to set. I think subbing in Hoffman would probably work better. A few too many mental mistakes for sure but I think the team has tons of potential. Yeah, I thought the double sub late in the first when we were hanging was an odd choice...figured we should have stayed with what was working. But I have zero national titles to my name, so...yeah.
Gotta shake it off...Oregon right around the corner and we saw what they did to Minny today.
I think they were just sticking to the game plan they had from the first couple matches.
It didn't work in last night's match.

If this is gonna be rebuilding year then they need to get blossom more time.
Agreed. I too would like to see Blossom get more time (to get comfortable) playing in big matches. I think of it as an investment in the future.

If this is gonna be rebuilding year then they need to get blossom more time. It would be interesting to see Gabby in the front row. She lists at 5" 10" on the roster, but might not be quite that tall. Can she block well enough to set in the front row?
Obviously, the coaching staff already knows the answer to that question, but we won't unless she actually sets from the front row in a match.
There have been plenty of good 5'9" setters who've played in the front row.
I think coach is being loyal to his seniors, in this case Bryanna, which is fine too.

I don't think Coach Rose makes playing time decisions based on loyalty. He has two consistent mantras: play hard; and "I want to win."

Coach has pretty consistently indicated and shown that he tries to win matches. For example we started the Freshmen ahead of Tori Gorrell. I think Coach thought that the double sub in set one would put Phegley on the front row and we would win that set. We got one point but then our rhythm changed. When Gabby gives us the best chance to win she will play.

I did not watch the match but the scores indicated to me that this team is better than I originally thought. To face an experienced squad such as Stanford put on the floor and to keep scores as they did says a great deal about their determination.
It is going to be an exciting season should those attitudes displayed against Stanford continue through the league.

I want to see more blossom. I to would rather let her get the experience this year and be ready to go next year. Weiskircher is a average setter at best and I’d rather maybe take a few lumps and get them out of way with blossom right now then later. Also so many middles. Do any have the skill to move to outside

While I know what you're saying and don't disagree, I recall coach playing a lot of smalls in their senior years ahead of others who IMO were better players. They may not have been starters, but it did show to me that coach cares about the older kids (i.e., my "loyalty" term) and gives them a longer leash. Having said that, I realize that doesn't mean he'll play kids who are flat out "bad."

Penn State looking ok. Oregon not playing as well as they did against Minnesota. This year is looking more and more like tossup for who the best team is.
I think Coach Rose has an obligation to PSU fans and the University to put the best team forward in conference and in the NCAA tournament. Playing favorites for whatever reason is unacceptable.

Tied at 17 now.
For what it's worth, I didn't mean to suggest that coach plays favorites, I meant to say that he cares for his seniors and gives them ample opportunities to play. Apologies for misleading some fans.

Penn State doesn't have the overwhelming firepower this year. The focus has to be on minimizing mistakes.
