I haven't been watching, but I guess they have five finalists going into tomorrow. And they're leading by quite a few points.
PSUMAUI, where are you? We need your analysis.

PSUMAUI, where are you? We need your analysis. This is going as I expected it to go! There are a couple of things to mention. Quite a few upsets at 174 on day 1. 2-4 ranked wrestlers were upset making a matchup of Nickal vs Martin(Ohio State). Last two times these two met up, Nickal beat him badly. Finals and 3/5 place matches will be on ESPN/ESPNU Saterday. 125 - #3 Nico Megaludis vs #4 Thomas Gilman from Iowa - Ohio State's #1 and formally unbeaten Tomasello lost to Iowa's #4 Thomas Gilman - Nico has a good shot at getting his first and only Title. 133 - #5 Jordan Conaway made it to the QFinals but lost and is still alive in Cons rounds and has a chance at 3rd place yet. He will be wrestling #3 Richards from Illinois on Sat. 141 - Jimmy Gulibon finished the season with 2 wins and 2 loses in tournament. 149 - #1 Zain Retherford is taking on #2 Brandon Sorensen from Iowa. Zain beat Sorensen in the Big 10 Championships two weeks ago with a score of 4-0. Zain was in control that whole match. I don't see it going any different this time either. I see the Zain train rolling for his 1st National title. 157 - #3 Jason Nolf vs #1 IMAR. This will be the rubber match. IMAR had to get a takedown in SV to win his semi-final match today. Looked like IMAR's opponent sustained an injury to back of his knee late in match. Had he not sustained this injury, I think he would have beaten IMAR. If Nolf doesn't wear out like he did last time against IMAR, I think he takes this match. Nolf needs to get points early and make IMAR push him. I don't want to see this go into SV. IMAR continues to try to out muscle his opponents. I do believe this can be exploited by Nolf this match. 165 - Gino Morelli did pretty good for being unranked. Beat some good high ranked wrestlers before being knocked out of competition on day 2. 174 - #1 Bo Nickal will be going against #11 Myles Martin of Ohio State. Bo pinned him in BIG 10 Championships and beat him 11-5 the time before. I see Bo getting his first Title on Sat! 184 - #16 Matt McCutcheon - Lost two in a row and was out on day 1. I don't think he ever recovered physically/mentally after his early season injury. 197 - # 1 Morgan McIntosh will have a tough match against #2 J'Den Cox of Missouri. I think this will be Morgan's toughest match this year. This is Morgan's last chance at getting an individual National Championship. HWT - Nevills didn't make it into the tournament. We are way ahead of the rest of field for the Team Championship. Closest team is Oklahoma State (34.5 points behind) This is how the team race is as of end of Friday: Team Scores/Places

Great summary (as usual). As an aside, I thought the ESPN production -- with interviews with Billy Baldwin and Kyle Dake (who wears a t-shirt with their name on it?) -- was absolutely atrocious. The interviews went on during Retherford's match and another Penn State match (I forget which) for between one and two minutes, during which time there was no commentary. Guys, the reason people are watching is to see and hear about the matches, not to listen to Billy and Kyle.
The highlight of the interviews, for me, was when the ESPN guy said to Cornell's Gabe Dean "Fantastic hugs with your coach and [someone]. As a senior, tell me about what's going through your head and the emotion of this being your last NCAA Tournament." Gabe Dean: "Actually, I'm a junior."

Thanks PSUMAUI! You bring Dignity (there's a word play in there somewhere) to what ESPN presents as a vulgar brawl. At least it's on in the midst of this obsession with basketball.

With the results so far in today's consolation round, PSU has clinched the championship. My prediction that Sanderson will lead Rose in national championships by the time Rose's new contract extension expires stands.

My prediction that Sanderson will lead Rose in national championships by the time Rose's new contract extension expires stands. He's certainly gotten off to a faster start. If comparisons must be made, do we figure that Sanderson is just that much better, or that the pool of exceptional wrestlers is smaller and Sanderson and PSU are getting the best.? Maybe it's best to just be happy that a PSU team is doing exceptionally well.
However you view it, it's probably a pretty safe prediction.

PA has by far the best high school wrestling in the country. The same cannot be said for PA high school/club volleyball. Cael is a great coach. He does have some built-in advantages.

Yea, Cael is a Blue Chip magnet! Who wouldn't want to wrestle for a 4 time undefeated National Champion? I agree with you Nyline that nobody want's to see or hear from Baldwin; especially when a match is going on. ESPN is known for this type of commentating. Happened many times during Women's Volleyball NCAA Tournament!

PA has the best pool of talent depth of any state. Also, as Psumaui said, playing for the legendary Cael Sanderson (who was undefeated in his college days) has got to be a huge pull.

On to the match of the final round -- Nolf vs Martinez. This should be really good.
