Lol. I remember when he was in the booth with Paul for an NCAA match PSU v Stan. He knew all about Foluke's goggles (OMG, Paul was STILL telling that in 2020 (1) Olympics), but he seemed unfamiliar with the PSU players. Obs a bunch of them including Glass, Holdge, Harmotto, Fawcett, Courtney, Hancock, and Washington ended up on the WNT, but he always showed IMO a tilt towards the west coast. Karch is also 61...just a few years younger than the not shy but retiring Rose. I would love to find someone who could put in decades w/PSU, not just a few years.

I feel like we’re five or so years away from a whole crop of former players being ready to take over. Just not sure we’re there yet…

You're right, definitely too old to take over a college program.

A poster on "The Board that Shall Not Be Named" claims (I emphasize -- claims) that the Penn State players have been told that the new head coach will be in place by the start of the next semester -- which, if true (and if I read the Penn State semester starting date correctly) would mean by January 9, 2022. Which makes sense to me: James Franklin, for example, was hired on January 11, 2014.

Not sure what the "that was fast" refers to -- wrapping up the coaching search by January 9th, or leaking that the players were told the coaching search would be wrapped up by January 9th. If it's the leak, I'm surprised it wasn't simulcast Leaks like that are bound to happen fast. As to wrapping up the coaching search, contrary to what some posters here and elsewhere believe, there is zero doubt in my mind that the AD has been prepared for this day -- and for every other head coaching position at Penn State. Not to be prepared would be professional malpractice, and regardless what anyone may think about Sandy Barbour, she is thoroughly professional. The view of some on this board is that the entire process has been slow and cumbersome. I have a feeling some of the posters with that view have never observed the process from the inside that is involved in negotiating the hire of C-level executives at major for-profit or not-for-profit corporations. By the standards of the many, many I have seen, Penn State's process has, so far, been speedy.

To clarify, it seemed fast to me, but as you say it was apparently in the works for a long time. It must have been bittersweet for Russ to sit there knowing that his season was really, truly over.

Some good thoughts on this topic! Here are mine:
Salima would have been an excellent choice, but she is now turning 50 and frankly I'm not so sure she would be up for the job. She was the heir apparent, and she walked away...
The next coach will be female. Just a fact. So Adam H (an excellent choice), Dan Fisher of Pitt, or Steve A, etc. are all nos... Louisville coach is a good choice, but she is waiting for John Cook at NE to retire in 5 years, and just signed a handsome new contract.
We need a coach with some high-level experience, preferably with roots in our golden era...which leads me to...Alyssa D'Errico. Associate head coach at Dayton, 5 years coaching experience, plus a legendary record as a player. She actually has far more experience than Russ did at the time he joined PSU.
Alyssa -- is The One...
Thoughts everyone?

It would be sad if PSU limits their search to female coaches only. I don't mind, but they need the right person.
What's Kaleena Davidson doing these days? IIRC, coach Rose praised her for recruiting the 2014 class. Her husband, Cameron, is a performance enhancement coach at PSU.

Kaleena Davidson has worked for several years for PSU's Morgan Academic Center (student-athlete academic advising/tutoring). Cam Davidson left for a position as director of Strength and Conditioning at Colorado College at the end of summer. Not sure if Kaleena has followed him to Colorado Springs as yet.

Cross off your list: Jim Barnes late of Tulane and before Baylor is headed to Iowa.
excerpt:
Before Tulane, Barnes spent 11 seasons as the head coach at Baylor (2004-15), where he became the program’s all-time win leader with 181 victories. Barnes’ tenure in Waco, Texas, included two 20-win seasons, and two NCAA Tournament appearances, including an appearance in the Sweet 16 in 2009.
Barnes produced the first five All-Americans and recruited the first NCAA Player of the Year in Baylor history.

OK, any news people? We're coming up empty. Wishes? Thoughts? Iambic pentameter that is vaguely relevant?

YES! She's my 1st choice (assuming Salima is a No), I hope she's not under Sandy's radar.

Sandy's radar misses noone. It is Penn State of the art (I'll see myself out).

OK Sandy. The Bowl Game is over. Please announce the new coach ASAP. Time to get players out of the portal and get recruiting
