....... I still believe Penn State needs a coach with DI experience and a track record. Anything else is a gamble and there is no need to gamble... If you mean it would be best to get successful head coaching experience in a decent D1 program, I strongly agree.

Well that would rule out Salima, so I'm not in favor of that. As an option, fine. But not a requirement.

Not that Bussboom ... someone connected to NE would ever be s good example ... but Loui'ville hired an assistant from a good program. And it seems like it worked out.

After watching this forum and VT for a couple weeks, here’s my addition to the discussion. Thanks for all the insights up to this point, really interesting. I’m a PSU alum and VB fan generally but I have zero insider info.
Amongst the PSU connected bunch: Alyssa D’Errico probably has a stronger resume than Katie Schumacher-Cawley, and seems like a solid choice. In-person interviews and reference/network checks, which we fans aren’t privy to, are vital in these cases. KSC’s record at IUC is uninspiring. Adam Hughes is probably strongest believable male candidate, but is he an obvious home run? No reason to believe in (or refute) the other out-there candidates, depends on how much $$$ PSU is dangling.
From the non-Rose-tree, I hope they’d be looking really closely at Kelli Miller Phillips. Her success at Ball St is noteworthy (beat UM in tourney) and that’s a real hotbed of volleyball talent for recruiting. I’d be extremely excited if they managed to team her up with Nicole Fawcett.
This job is going to be hard. On the plus side, it has tons of history. But, there’s gonna be a lot of building to do. Rec Hall is outdated in comparison to WI and NE. The PA talent pool looks shallower than KY, IN, OH, MI, FL, CA, or even WI/IL. The faithful got used to Rose’s consistency and old-school approach. It’s gonna take a big effort modernize the program, and that’s gonna take a special personality.
As far as timing, I wouldn’t get too nervous yet. It’s a $150-350k/yr job, which is great money, but not head football coach money and it’s entirely possible the candidates would wait until after the holidays for in-person interviews. Also, 1000’s of flight have been canceled in the past week, and State College isn’t easy to get to. And the same is true from a recruiting/portal standpoint - those young women weren’t getting on any campuses in the past week.
I’m very interested to see how this turns out, but it will take several years to really understand if it was a good choice.

Kelli Miller Phillips does have an impressive resume -- albeit mid-major, but impressive nonetheless. Here's a link to her Ball State bio: ballstatesports.com/sports/womens-volleyball/roster/coaches/kelli-miller-phillips/1448

Good to see new contributors on here - another indication of what feels like a new dawn at Penn State volleyball. Great first post nittanye! With me being so far away, informative posts like that are invaluable

The story was a coach in place by the start of spring classes, which is Monday.
I'm not getting a good feeling about this search... anyone have anything to make me feel optimistic?

I would not be surprised if they gave the position to Katie Schumacher-Cawley come Monday. Hoping the suspense ends soon, I can't handle the wait much longer.

Asking not in a snarky way but really wanting to know: What has she accomplished at PSU? What recruits did she bring in? What success has she had as a position coach or strategist?
Not putting Dennis forward, but I am aware he developed Allie Holland into a real, credible threat at MB and got PSU block numbers well up there nationally.
If someone asked me to defend Katie, aside from her credible resume, I'd be flumoxed.
