We knew it at the time, but those wins over Stanford and Oregon are absolutely monumental. If PSU can grab at least one win over one of the top teams (especially Neb, OSU, Purdue, but also Minn and Wisc) and avoid losing to lower ranked/unranked teams, you'd have to think there's a good shot at being seeded and hosting. As OSU at #6 shows, losses don't matter much if they're to top teams.
