I'm not sure this team has what it takes to win it all again. Too much inconsistency. Losing to a Northwestern team shouldn't have happened and getting beat by Michigan at Rec Hall is unacceptable. It's also concerning that this team didn't even really challenge Nebraska tonight and Minnesota a few weeks ago. Getting past the 3rd round is going to be a problem. Yes, depending on their bracket that could be problematic. I'm betting they'll make it to the 4th round, beyond that would be gravy. Hopefully, we'll get a good tourney bracket. Check out my prediction: forum.dignittanyvolleyball.com/post/2582

This PSU team has parallels (young strong hitters, freshman setter, passing issues) to the 2011 team that exited in the round of 8. The 2011 team was swept in the round of 16, which, depending on the draw/opponent, could very well happen again.

one thing i saw that disturbed me. during a volley, well, it was a good serve by neb and it was handled very badly and the 2nd hit wasn't much better and courtney, who was in the middle looked disgusted and lazily slapped the ball into the net instead of just popping it over. i thought it was very bad form for anyone, much less courtney.
as to the team. it's been over-rated, obviously. i'm sure they're a top 15 team, but they don't jell. i think they win because there's lots of talent .... but they are not a team. i'm hoping it's just youth but i'm concerned it's more than that. they've lost any real confidence they had and i think they will lose quickly in the tourney.
i also would not be surprised by an announcement of retirement by rose .... perhaps not this year but maybe next. he's accomplished all a coach could ask for and i don't see him hanging around much longer.
i know this all sounds negative but it's how i feel. maybe i'm wrong about all this .... but i kinda doubt it.

However, you never know who can get upset in your bracket, so anything is possible.

We all suffer the post-loss frustration of defeat. That's what being a fan is all about. Just have to be mindful of extreme depression that accompanies these symptoms. Doctor's orders - take a week off then take 2 victory pills next weekend and you'll feel 100% better. Trust me, it works.

Not intended as a prediction of what will happen if (when) we make it to the Sweet 16, or to the tourney finish for Nebraska. Fwiw, I think we make round of 16,and don't think we get swept.

Sorry to have been away. I watched the game somewhat delayed and had fast forwarded through ads so that I entered real time for the last few points of set three.
As others have observed, the team should make the round of 16. It is similar to the 2011 team, although it has fewer losses. What it doesn't have is the fire that the 2011 team could show.
I feel bad for the seniors, but they have two National Championships and how many players can say that?
I hate saying this, but Washington's effectiveness has dropped-off over the last month. I never thought I'd say this, but she's human like everyone else. Shaky backrow play made Weiskircher's job near impossible. I was most disappointed by how few overpasses the team successfully terminated. It seemed as if they expected simply tapping the ball would result in a kill.
Nebraska defeated PSU through better play and hustle. While a blown replay call was disheartening, it didn't make much difference.
Let's hope for three weak teams coming to PSU next week. I hope the fans show up to give the team support they'll need to make the sweet 16.
PSU has had a season most Division 1 coaches and fans would kill for. We've been terribly spoiled. Just as adversity can build a team's character, as fans we have to avoid getting overly critical--should I delete everything I've just written?

In the 70’s & 80’s I lived in Pgh. When the Steelers didn’t go to a third straight Super Bowl, everyone was shocked, dazed, in disbelief and denial. People were depressed, refused to watch any NFL playoffs. Some of our posts tonight remind me of those Steeler fans (including myself).
The PSU WVB program is the most successful college athletic program in the history of the world. If we believe it can never end or diminish, we are setting ourselves up for big disappointments.
To me the recruiting lists that were posted a while ago were very concerning. PSU had only one second tier recruit while our rivals were lining them up. Yes, we’ve all seen top recruits who turned out to be duds and vise versa. But, in general, over time, the teams that consistently get the top players win the most games and championships. Da-a-a-a.
All I’m saying is that we may be forced to accept the idea that PSU will not win another championship for a while. Of course I hope I am wrong. But we may be witnessing the twilight of the goddesses.
Anyway, fight on State. Go Steelers—"One [Super Bowl ring] for the thumb in ‘81”

We'll see if coach has saved anything special for the tourney. Let's just enjoy it as far as it goes. My expectations were low this year; they'll be higher next season for sure.

Who are you comparing them too? What concerns me is that some of the Big10 and Pac12 programs may not always get good recruits but they are getting a lot of good transfers and Penn State doesn't go that route. Also, unless PSU has more than 3 losing seasons in a row, they won't lose their dynasty status. Actually, they only need to stay ahead of Stanford to keep it.

Perhaps 8m is thinking about the fact that it looks like we won't have any right-handed backup O/Hs for the next two years so it might get interesting if Frantti or Lee get injured or sick in 2016 and 2017.

The comment about PSU not getting transfers got me wondering. Who, if anyone, has transferred into Penn State from another program in the last fifteen years?
