for Penn State -- I don't think so. Although on DigNittanyVolleyball's recruiting pages (Recruiting Matrix, and the individual Class pages -- e.g. 2016 Recruiting) we don't speculate on who has a scholarship and who doesn't, one leading indicator is if they sign an LOI/NLI. I suspect PSU only had one scholarship to give for 2016, so I doubt there will be any more LOI/NLI signings (though I could be wrong) and there is a "letter" that non-scholarship athletes sign, the name of which I forget. Regardless, the only thing that matters to me is whether Coach Rose and his staff think enough of a player to let them dress and practice with the team. If they're good, they'll get playing time. And help Penn State win. And I look forward to seeing all of them -- whether on scholarship or not -- do just that. So you don't think Emily Demure is getting a scholarship? Does anyone know what her and the other 2016 recruits ranks are on the PrepVolleyball website? I don't ķnow about about a scholarship (and as I said in my post, it doesn't really matter to me), and I don't believe she was ranked in the top 100. Micha Hancock was ranked in the 40s, I think. Rankings are a good indicator of talent and Club success, but they aren't infallible as predictive tools. I'm going to check on rankings.

According to Twitter post, 5-8 DS Allison Farrell, from Glenbard East High School in Lombard Illinois, has signed to play volleyball at Penn State, starting with the 2016 season. Here's a link to the story on DigNittanyVolleyball.com: Allison Farrell Signs with Nittany Lions for 2016In addition to all the volleyball reasons for choosing Penn State, Allison has a family connection: her brother, Joey Farrell, is a 6-5 OH on the Penn State men's volleyball team, and was a 2nd-team High School All American on USA Volleyball Magazine's team.

In addition, a Virginia libero who didn't get a NLI opportunity, Emily Sciorra, has verballed. On NLI day there were photos of her with her PSU sweats on. I really really like the idea of players who are already liberos playing at L, instead of retraining setters. VA player of the year, back in ~2008, Megan Shifflett, a phenomenal HS setter, never really made an impact as PSU DS. So good for us with White and maybe Sciorra coming along. (Of course, one of my old favorites Berta Holehouse made the transition from OH to L if memory serves. so go figure! that's part of where she got her terrific serve and ability to get the ball back over in a pinch.)

I wanted to clarify an earlier post about the MaxPreps rankings of a 2016 incoming recruit, Kendall White.
MaxPreps just looks at HS stats, while PrepVolleyball looks at club also, and judges their potential impact, not HS performance.
The big thing to note is that the MaxPreps ranking on the bio page is for the school, not the player.
MaxPreps goes solely by a player's high school team stats. So that can really vary widely depending on how strong a player's high school team and league is. (And if the high school coach doesn't enter any stats, the player will really not be recognized at all.) PrepVolleyball pays more attention to club volleyball and has input from a panel of college coaches who vote on who they think will be most successful as a college athlete, so the Senior Aces is generally a more accurate barometer. Sometimes they get a player wrong, but usually they are fairly close. 38 is really high for a libero to be ranked. They don't usually get as much attention as elite hitters and setters. Under Armour All-Americans usually pick a lot of the top players, and then sometimes they pick a few that are head scratchers and also leave out some outstanding players. PrepVolleyball I think comes closest to the mark in accurately assessing college potential.
Again, MaxPreps site ranks high schools (not players), but they will very soon come out with All-State and All-American teams, which are based purely on HS stats.
According to PrepVolleyball -- Senior Ace 38. Kendall White, 5-5 Libero, Cathedral (Indianapolis, Indiana), Munciana – Penn State
Kendall White is the 3rd ranked libero of the 2016 Class. She comes after Morgan Hentz (Stanford) and Tiffany Clark (Michigan) - both of those players are in the Top 30. Morgan Hentz, a Stanford commit, was the top libero ranked by PrepVolleyball at #22. Tiffany Clark was next, who committed to Michigan. Kendall White was the 3rd ranked libero. At #51 was a BYU recruit, Mary Lake, at 53, a Tulsa recruit. Purdue has a libero at #56, Wisconsin at #57 (M.E. Dodge), LBSU at #59, Texas at #78, USC at #89. Those are the liberos on the Senior Aces.
Kendall is a gritty game-changer who has started for powerhouse Cathedral for four years, White is the quintessential workhorse libero who wants every ball and has the confidence to know that she will get the job done every time. A fearless player, the Irish’s career digs leader has injured both wrists diving into the bleachers! So what? That also added to her tenacity in the back row. White makes big plays with great regularity, has a jump serve that produces points and has evolved into a gym rat who can’t get enough work in. An emotional leader who will attend Penn State on a four-year scholarship, club coach Mike Lingenfelter of Munciana called White “As good a teammate, player and libero as there is in this country. Winner!” On a side note, libero’s RARELY get offered 4 year scholarships. 2 years is more typical for a good libero.
Note: All the info above was clarified and provided by the VT poster "Bayarea." I was extremely appreciative for all his help.

Does anyone know whether Kendall White will graduate early and come into Penn State to work out with the team early - Spring Semester 2016? If she was she would have announced it already. I hope we don't put all of our expectations to return as a top competitive team on Kendall's shoulders. She is a very good libero but we need six-rotation terminators as well. If not now, when?
