can you break that down for us not on the inside? thx! If you're referring to the "article" on VolleyTalk by TomClen, it was fictional. TomClen made it up to humor Publius.

can you break that down for us not on the inside? thx! yesterday at 9:25am publius, bucky415, and 10 more like this Quote Post Options Post by tomclen on yesterday at 9:25am Wow! Volleytalk gets a mention in the Stanford post-match web write-up: Stanford Falls to Purdue Cardinal drops to 3-2 STANFORD, Calif. – For the second time this season the Stanford women's volleyball team has gone up 2-0 on its opponent and failed to close out the match on its home court. Friday's opponent, No. 20 Purdue, gritted out a tough 31-33, 12-25, 25-23, 28-26, 15-11 win at Maples Pavilion. Stanford (3-2) topped Purdue (6-1) in blocks (17.0 to 11.0), aces (7 to 5) and hitting percentage (.230 to .222), but the Boilermakers held a 73-64 advantage in digs and both teams notched 71 kills. Coach John Dunning said the team will have to work on doing a better job staying focused. "We were probably a little over-confident at the break. Some of the girls were on the phones checking Volleytalk. We do that a lot to try to pick up tips on what we're doing wrong. But this time, I know we all were getting a chuckle looking at this one thread about the Big 10 being way overrated. It's this guy Publius. Usually he knows what he's talking about." Things went south for the Cardinal after the 10 minute break. Purdue avoided the sweep with a 25-23 win in the third in which Stanford hit .179 and had seven attack errors. The Boilermakers then jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the fourth to keep its momentum going. Stanford tied the fourth at 8-8, but Purdue continued to sideout and eventually won the fourth, 28-26. Stanford led 7-4 in the fifth and felt in control of the final frame. Purdue had other plans going on an 8-0 run which put the Cardinal in a deficit it was unable to recover from. Stanford University athletic director Bernard Muir announced after the match that the Cardinal volleyball team will play all of their remaining home games in the Philippines and will be re-branded as the Manila Folders. can you break that down for us not on the inside? thx! Volleytalk is not exclusive or inclusive. It's a pretty unfriendly place. Don't go there for validation. This site is way friendlier. It does have some first rate humor and Tomclen is one of my favorites. That's not to say I agree with him on everything. I doubt he knows "who" I am--not that he should. As the Ohio State games approach, it's worth looking for a guy named "rampageripster" who writes endless litanies proclaiming his hatred for Penn State. If you're not overly sensitive, they're pretty funny.

#6 Wisconsin takes down #2 Texas 3-2 after being down 0-2. Wow. So much for the B1G being overrated. Or is it that Texas was overrated? Or is it that teams are still jelling. Or is it . . . .

A really B1G upset tonight --> (unranked) Illinois went on the road and defeated #10 Purdue in 5 sets.
Just more proof that any given night in the B1G is a struggle.

Another huge upset last night.
Unranked Washington State traveled to and defeated #4 Univ. of Washington 3-1.
The Pac-12 and B1G are a grind every night, that's for sure.

Do you know anything about Washington State? WSU will be an interesting team to follow this year. A WSU fan whom I met on a soccer forum and introduced to VT is a big fan. There are some "experts" who were predicting WSU to be really competitive this year; I'm not sure half their fans believe it. Here are what some of the fans on VT had to say:

They are a good team that I believe will do well in the B1G--possibly to PSU's detriment.I think the B1G will be a struggle and I wonder how they'll keep the top three rankings as they start playing each other. It does bode well for the tournament as long as they aren't clustered in one or two regions.

For sure the B1G teams will end up beating each other up and, most likely, will end up droping either the top 2nd or 3rd ranking. At least the B1G teams' RPI should remain high, but I expect Texas to creep back into a top 3 spot simply because they have no competition in their conference.

Remember these names: Mims, Schoenlein, Holt, Woodford, Martin, MacDonald, Rigoni, and Dirige.
These girls play on the Washington State Cougars. They just took down Stanford in 5 sets. They have 3 quality wins on their resume. They should be in the top 10 on Monday. They will probably win out the PAC-12 this year.

Most of you have probably already heard.
Ohio State just beat Nebraska (in NE) 3-1.
Gonna be a shake up in the AVCA poll on Monday.

Earlier in the week, watched a complete team in Kentucky's taking down Florida in 3...at Florida! Every facet of their game was spot on! They are quick movers, quick hands, quick swings, quick sets, great D and worked cohesively as a team. Look out for them to make big strides come December! Love their tenacity. I don't think it was a fluke, either. Well coached, too.
