AS of 11:30 AM EDT on 9 September, there hasn't been a posting on a PSU-named Volleytalk thread since 3 September. Not a single post about the PSU-Colorado game! That's the first time in five years I haven't seen a thread about a PSU game.
Is this a bad thing? I can think of a good thing, I haven't read any anti-PSU trolls in almost a week. (there was a mention of the "Imperial Dynasty" on that long-running Stanford thread)
Should we care? Is it a bad thing that PSU isn't being represented on Volleytalk? Should we draw lots here on DigNittany to select members to make obligatory posts?
Many DigNittany members have brought their Volleytalk names onto this site. Their posts on Volleytalk have markedly decreased over the last two years. There are other PSU stalwarts whose names aren't among the DigNittany participants. Are they here incognito?
I don't know the answers or have any recommendations. To me, it's an interesting development and I'm not a shrinking violet when it comes to posting.
Happy Saturday. Hoping for a successful day in Happy Valley and Huff Hall.

I see no need to talk on Volleytalk.

A couple of things:
1) The people who founded VolleyTalk did NCAA Volleyball (both men's and women's) a huge service, for which everyone should be enormously grateful.
2) Having said that, for whatever reasons, my perception has been that conversation on VolleyTalk about Penn State Women's Volleyball too often descends into acrimony. I'm not interested in assigning blame (not a task likely to enlighten in any event). But I do really dislike the acrimony. It was a big motivator in starting DigNittanyVolleyball.com (not the sole motivator, by any means -- having a site to post stats in a format I like was another, as well as exploring topics in greater depth than is practical on a forum).
3) It's very difficult to follow two match threads -- one on VolleyTalk and one on DigNittany -- and do both of them justice. So I guess I hope people add their voices to the threads on DigNittany.
4) Having said that, VolleyTalk obviously has an enormous amount of content and information to offer. I visit frequently. I simply don't post there very often anymore. But it's not an either-or proposition. One can enjoy both DigNittanyVolleyball.com and VolleyTalk. I do.
5. I am really looking forward to this afternoon's match. I hope someone starts a match thread, so we can all talk about it.
Be well. Love, peace and volleyball. Nyline

Volleytalk may be a PSU wasteland, but this joint is jumpin!
And some of this evening's comments provide disincentives for participation.

A number of PSU fans on Volleytalk have been banned over the years. I decided to permanently leave VT after my seventh or eighth ban. The final straw was being banned for making a political post in the politics forum that one of the mods disagreed with. The post was clearly withing the terms of service, but it hardly mattered. Intolerance seems to be a common attribute among those who claim to value tolerance and diversity -- but not diversity of opinions.
I do sometimes think I would like to read VT after certain events in volleyball, such as PSU beating Stanford twice in one week, but that desire isn't strong enough to find a way around my ban.

I too am glad you're here. One of the best things about this site is that it's avoided becoming a forum for more contentious issues. I'm not trying to encourage you to tempt fate by rejoining Volleytalk, just as I don't offer to buy drinks for recovering alcoholics, but you can "look" at Volleytalk without registering--just as many individuals "look" at this site without registering. Love the roster pictures.

After seeing how the current Volleytalk PSU-Stanford match thread devolved, I know I prefer the conversation here.

After seeing how the current Volleytalk PSU-Stanford match thread devolved, I know I prefer the conversation here. The conversation devolved for a few bitter/entitled Stanford fans. Although most are pretty good posters, they just saw their team dismantled and beaten down physically and mentally in game 4 and 5. That is tough to watch and sometimes people's frustrations can get projected on to other other issues often imaginary.

Love the roster pictures. I thought so as well, but my attempts to view VT using an incognito window on Chrome and private window on Firefox have not allowed me to get around the ban. Do you have another method you can suggest?

Do you have another method you can suggest? Geeez. When it comes to questions like this, I'm like Kee-Rok, the Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer that Phil Hartman created on Saturday Night Live. In other words, I'm on the bad side of ignorant. I do know that I occasionally look at this site and Volleytalk (about once or twice a week) when I'm at work--and I never log in. So, if I could bring you into where I work--I'm sure you could look. But getting you into where I work would be on the far side of impossible. Anyway, have you tried looking from a friend's computer, or phone? Maybe there's someone on this site who could tell you how to get an innocuous ip address (is that the right term?). I imagine you could get on at a library. I'm kind of amazed that Volleytalk has such sophisticated "exclude nitneliun" protocols--especially when they can't seem to exclude an individual that's been expressing (euphemistically) contrarian views on the politics forum. ....maybe I could put you in touch with him? hmmm....

Do you have another method you can suggest? Use a VPN, like Touch VPN (Microsoft App Store). There are lots of add-on VPN's available through Chrome extensions.

Do you have another method you can suggest? Millennium is right. VT uses your ISP to track you so by using a VPN you would now be untrackable on the new ISP and you can change your ISP at will to different countries. I use HMA(Hide My arse) to watch FIVB matches on YouTube that are blocked in USA.

I remembered the Opera browser has a VPN built in, so I downloaded that and took a look at the VT PSU vs. Stanford thread. That was a tremendous mistake. Don't think I'll be visiting VT for a while.
