I hope all is well with Salima. This couldn't have been an easy decision. We will certainly miss her. Dennis seems like an obvious replacement, though I think there's something to be said for having a woman coach to help with recruiting and with team chemistry. Selfishly, I was hoping Salima would take over after Russ and again illustrate Penn State's commitment to strong, diverse coaches. She was a great person, player, and coach. She will be missed. I tend to agree that Dennis seems the likely replacement and I really like him even as a future (far future) replacement for Russ. My only question is, who does the recruiting now?

Regarding Dennis what are the reasons he left Virginia? Russ is a very big talent to replace Virginia replaced its AD. The new AD wanted to go in a new direction. I think it was a bad decision by the new Virginia AD, but the result was that Dennis returned as volunteer coach for Penn State, and I think that was a huge plus for Penn State this season. I don't know whether Dennis will replace Salima or not, but if he does, I don't think that means he will ultimately succeed Coach Rose. He might, but that's a completely different decision.

Was she just taking break for bit when she left or retiring from sport.

Wonder if there are any former PSU players who are coaching now and are interested in being Coach Rose's assistant. I was wondering same thing. We see the former psu alum coaching now in Aires and Blair brown and carpenter. Any that Havnt started coaching that could make good coach? I’d love to see Hancock back on in psu colors. Would harmatto be good coach, what about Courtney. Both struck me as having high VB IQs and harmatto, look at her resume. Wasn’t she also captain of USA team even at end there when she wasn’t playing as much. Captains are usually the best leaders. Had thought about harmatto a lot over last couple year comming to the end of her long national career. It’s the right time for that kind of move if she wanted to do it. Always wondered, who she would end up with that we would have to beat since Rockwell was the obvious choice at psu and was locked until she wasn’t. Notice how I mention mostly females because I hope another female gets a chance at leading a big program in division I volleyball.

yea if the position does not go to Dennis, then hell yea I would love to see someone like Harmotto get it, I think with her resume to flash around she would make a good coach and recruiter.

A lot of great players have come through psu. But great players don’t necessarily equate to great coaches. Harmatto has always struck me as someone who I could see making great coach. She was a team captain at both college and national levels, she has all kinds of hardware and just seems to have right mentality to be coach. With Rockwell now out and her in right stage of think in her life, if she wanted to coach I would hate to see her do it anywhere other then psu. Out of all the logical names of x players who we could see coaching in future, to me she would be my top choice. I would do that and then bring in someone like Courtney as a assistant on staff. I know she wasn’t at lvl as harmatto and their were a lot of other former players with more skill but she was always said to have a ridiculously high VB IQ and I’d want someone like that on staff helping kids.

(1) I am sorry to hear that Salima is retiring since she seemed to be the successor in waiting. From the little I saw of her, Salima seemed to have the demeanor to handle the impossible task of (eventually) following a legendary coach.
(2) I hope that Courtney can rehab and continue efforts to make the National Team. My wish for Micha is to make the National Team and serve two dozen aces in the Olympics.
(3) While we all appreciate former players coming back, I would not be averse to an assistant coach who played elsewhere but brings an important technical expertise. Somebody taught Nebraska to dig like demons. A former National Team Libero, even if they played for a collegiate rival, would be a fine addition in my book. The Harmatto suggestion is intriguing. I just read an article where she was teaching for something called the Classroom Champions initiative, an online situation focusing on K-8 students. Harmatto Dietzen has a degree in elementary education.

Speaking of players as coaches, I thought one of the more interesting storylines of the Final Four was the role during timeouts by Florida's RS Sr. right side. They showed multiple times how Mary Wise would defer to her, and let her take the first crack at talking to the team during timeouts. The player was quite animated and she appeared to have the undivided attention of her teammates. Now there's a future coach 🙂

Her demeanor her petigree her being former alum her being a woman who everyone says they would love to see more of in game. Who fits that profile better then her. Not even Rockwell has same resume as her. Rockwell has more coaching experience and was great player and coach, taking nothing away for her and sucks to see her go. Wouldn’t even be having this conversation other wise. I was with everyone else very excited about her being the future. That’s in past now. So again who has better resume besides coaching because she has never done it so u can’t rate that yet then her
