Well that didn't work (twice). The article I read about Harmotto (from 2016) suggested that she wanted to teach children. Coaching was not mentioned. It strikes me that anyone who joins the staff must understand what Coach wants/needs from them. Last season there were some hints that Coach was not always happy with how the staff was "communicating." This year, Coach said some things which suggested that he was happy with how the staff was doing.

Brevity is the soul of wit 😎 I am clearly witless. Or have no soul. A blank page as it were.

I am in no way saying your wrong but sometimes the competitive nature of a person wins out regardless of original plan that’s all I’m saying. Some in the end just can’t step away. On other part about rose being happy. I knew nothing on that so first I knew there

PSU will NOT bring on a person who has no prior experience. THIS IS THE BEST IF NOT ONE OF THE BEST PROGRAMS IN THE COUNTRY. WE DO NOT WISH TO EXPERIMENT. Coaching obviously is not about being a good player or a pleasing personality. It is about knowing people and how to interact so that they grow and prosper, how to get them to do what they must do to provide the results expected. It ain't about being a good guy. It is about commitment and determination and those qualities are paramount. Look at the changes over the last few year and see that EXPERIENCE was held by each of those replacements. The only one that I can recall that has had that is the current coach at PENN but I know there are two or three in the smaller college scene that have been doing it for some time

Not any chance that the AD will go with an inexperienced coach. Playing the game is not a pre requisite for becoming a good coach. PSU ain't PODUNK U!!

Wasn't so long ago Kaleena was his assistant. I could see him bringing back a former player who has now attained coaching experience elsewhere if it were the right person, right fit.

MY Question is???
Who is the James Franklin of Women" s Volleyball
Look at Craig Skinner at Kentucky and see what he has accomplished there.
He took a "not very headline" volleyball program and has done wonders with it including a National High Ranking this year. Lots of experience with Nebraska and even with Cook at Wisconsin lo this many years ago. He should be invited and looked at seriously.

We have to assume, at this time, that Coach Rose intends to fulfill his 5 year contract. Given where we are in 2017, he knows that he must have a woman as associate head coach or as an experienced assistant coach (i.e not a young inexperienced coach). That's because it's needed and because appearance counts, especially nowadays. I'm sure that Coach will move quickly to name someone and get them onboard. This is a very desirable position.

In the time Russ has been here he has not always had a woman on his staff. Blair is not seasoned enough to take this HUGE ROLE

Imagine the number of resumes and contacts that Coach Rose has received in the past few days! Maybe he could give us a nice Happy Holidays gift and surprise us by bringing in a coach from another program and that coach could bring a gifted OH in a transfer. 'Tis the season when dreams come true, right?

Mary wise was deferring to Shynna Joseph. Joseph was bottled up behind another all-American who graduated in 2016, Alex Holston, who had played team w/Alhassan in HS, if I remember correctly. Mary Wise said in multiple interviews that most players like Joseph would have left. Joseph was totally committed to the team, rather than starting.
As for why Kaleena left, I know she had young child(ren) and the job can eventually be a grind. But I also think there may have been something amiss (friction?) w/Aird, who came after Kaleena was already in place.

I'm always impressed at how well Coach Rose and PSU's volleyball program maintain control over information. On Volleytalk, some of the posters claim that there were rumors of changes among PSU's coaching staff during Final Four week. But there was nothing definite and sometimes one can attribute comments like that to little more than "noise." In any event, Salima made her announcement on the 22nd and there's been nothing but speculation since. Those outside of Salima's family, the PSU program, or that are part of where she's headed who have a clue aren't talking. Those inside those circles who know aren't talking and... well at least it's something to talk about during the holidays.
But it all comes back to information control. I don't know how much other NCAA volleyball programs "talk," but I'm pretty sure between Nyline and all of our site participants we don't miss much of the information that the team and school puts out there. It's probably good that the team doesn't have leaks--while it might be neat to know some things, there are lots of reasons, personal privacy among them, that it's probably for the best that the only information we receive is that which is intended for public consumption.
So, will PSU hire a new Associate Head Coach? Why? PSU didn't have one before 2014 and seemed to do fine.
