USA wins third set 25-21. Washington is the leading scorer for the United States through three sets. She has been the star so far scoring with aces, spikes and blocks! Six point run at the end of set three for USA. Yes!! She's definitely making a case for herself to be added to the Tokyo roster.

Jordan Thompson entered the match late in the third set and has been dominating. Announcer says she is from the University of Cincinnati. She's my new favorite US women's national team player. Soooo dominant.

USA plays Bulgaria tomorrow. Since the Bulgarians lost to both Belgium and Japan, I would expect Karch to rest many of his starters. It does seem probable that players like Simone Lee who have not yet seen the floor will get a chance. I expect that the line up for the coming weeks will change quite a bit as the more experienced players finish up their club commitments. I am curious why Karch has not employed the double sub so far. I doubt he plans to abandon the system, but maybe he is experimenting. Yep, he's definitely experimenting, which is a pleasant surprise. I don't think Lee will make the Tokyo roster, but I could be wrong. I think Courtney will be going to Tokyo, because of her versatility. I also believe Hancock will unless a younger setter plays unseats her in the next 12 months.

As expected, US swept Bulgaria. According to the unofficial stats and the US website, it appears that Courtney was the only PSU alum who saw time. All three of the current collegiate players got in, including Mary Lake. Curious that Simone Lee did not play in any of the three matches. Next week will be much more difficult with Serbia, Italy, and Dominican Republic. Michelle Foecke will not be with the group as she is getting married. So there will be at least one replacement (perhaps more). Someone on VT mentioned that Lee may have taken on a minor injury and been held out as a precaution.

No , from what I understand she is not hurt. However it seems like she is on next weeks roster AND it seems Mikaela Foecke will not be available due to a Known conflict, therefore Karch may have wanted to get a look at her while available. If indeed Lee is on next weeks roster, I expect to see her in some capacity. Patience I wouldn't get too up nor down about any of the results this weekend. #1 All the lineups looked strong and played hard. #2 These 3 teams were not close to the top level teams/talent in the world currently #3 All the PSU girls (Hancock/Washington/Courtney) who saw time looked confident, sharp and strong.

Yeah, after clicking on the link, I was able to determine that it was a link to the game. Although I must confess that my clicking on the link was accompanied by fears that I'd be whisked into the world of robot porn sites. Yikes! I didn't even know robots watched that stuff. #sickening Watching? I was speaking of performing. #really sickening

Even allowing for the level of competition, Poulter looked pretty good. I had not recalled that Poulter had such broad shoulders, which physically makes her comparable to Carlini and allows for a slightly more imposing block presence. If the Japan match highlights showed me anything, it was that Micha's hand speed and quick thinking are a real asset. Micha ran a very sophisticated attack against Japan setting more than one back row spot, and getting both outsides lots of one on one opportunities. We will get a little better feel this week when the competition level ramps up.

Many of the commenters on Volley Talk were practically pleading for her, noting that Willhite and Kingdon were not doing well in serve receive or attack. I am curious why only the starters played in this one.

I would implore any parent of a future recruit to view the past PSU girls social media accounts.
I am consistently impressed by Russ at how successful and prepared these girls are for their next step in life, coaching, business, teaching and quite obviously the professional/National team.
What a program we are blessed with.
